Keratin is a fibrous protein made up of long chains of amino acids, mineral salts and vitamins. It is the protein present on our stratum corneum, the most superficial layer of our skin and is the main element of hair and nails. It creates a barrier against mechanical stress and against microorganisms and bacteria thanks to a weakly acidic pH. It also represents a barrier against UV rays protecting the skin also from thermal changes
